Vacation on 30A


We are currently sitting in the airport waiting to fly home from the beach. It's always a little bittersweet heading home from vacation, but we're also excited to get home and back to a normal routine. We had such an amazing week though, with lots of sun, relaxation & good food.

30-A is a collection of small communities along one highway. They all have their own style and "downtown" area and we had a great time exploring each one. We stayed in Seagrove Beach, but found ourselves in Seaside most nights.

Bruschetta Chicken


Well tomorrow David and I are officially on vacation for the next 10 days. We're headed to my hometown, Nashville, tomorrow and then fly to the beach on Saturday. We will be visiting one of my favorite places on earth, Seagrove Beach. I have so many memories in Seagrove, Seaside & Destin from vacations with my family, mother/daughter trips in high school & spending Spring Break there with in college. If we had all the money in the world, the first place I'd buy a vacation home would be on 30-A.

All that to say, I won't be posting recipes again until we get back but look for some fun updates from our trip over the next week. I am so looking forward to some rest and rejuvenation with my sweet husband.

Asian Chicken Wraps


The theme for dinners this week is definitely quick & easy. We're leaving for vacation on Thursday, so this week has been a little crazy with me trying to finish everything up for work for the rest of the month and get us ready to go at the same time. Needless to say, it's not leaving me much time to get creative in the kitchen at night. Tonight, I wanted something fresh & healthy that could be ready in under 30 minutes. These Asian Chicken Wraps are a great summer meal, and easy to customize with your favorite fruits & veggies.

San Pellegrino Sparkling Sangria


Nothing says summer like a glass of good Sangria. I'm always on the hunt for new variations to try, and I came across this recipe about a month ago. It's actually from a great restaurant in Nashville, called Sambuca. They have amazing food, so if you're ever in the area you should definitely check them out!

I made a few slight changes to their recipe, but overall I really liked the original. Sangria is something that gets better the longer you let the fruit soak. So I recommend making it at least 8 hours before you plan to drink it.

Mini Taco Pockets & Southwest Stuffed Peppers


So tonight I tried 3 new recipes to make dinner. Yes 3. Not something I'd do on a normal night, but thankfully they all turned out great and will definitely be a repeat in our house. The taco pockets called for canned crescent rolls. Did you know Pillsbury crescent rolls have 20 ingredients? Yellow 5, Red 40, Ferrous Sulfate, Hydrogenated Oil & Potassium Chloride just to name a few. I don't know about you, but I don't have any of those in my cabinet, nor do I want to.

Chicken & Spiced Apples with Rosemary Sweet Potatoes


I've been working on a new layout for the blog today, so let me know what you think! It was my first experience with changing code, and I'm still playing some customization, but I like how it's turned out so far. Thank goodness for online tutorials!

This is one of my go-to chicken recipes, and we have these sweet potatoes at least once a week. The cinnamon apples are a great compliment to the chicken.

Orange Ginger Chicken Stir-Fry


I love a good stir-fry recipe. Typically I'd use fresh ginger in this recipe, but apparently I forgot to buy it at the store this week. Oops. But it was still great with just the ground ginger.

This is another great meal that can be ready in 30-45 minutes. Which is good, because I usually don't find my way into the kitchen until around 7:00, making dinnertime in the Sage house around 8:00. David likes to say we're "European" when it comes to dinnertime. I like to tell myself this will continue even when babies are in the picture. We'll put the baby to bed by 7:30, and then enjoy a relaxing meal & wine, just the two of us. That's how it works, right?

Southwestern Turkey Skillet


Southwestern Turkey Skillet is one of David's favorite meals, and also one of the easiest meals I make. I like to make my own taco seasoning, but you can use a packet of taco seasoning from the store if you'd rather do that. I choose to make my own because almost all taco seasoning packets you'll find at the grocery store contain MSG as well as many other ingredients you'll have a hard time pronouncing.

MSG (monosodium glutamate) is a processed concentrated salt that has no nutritional value, and is used by many food companies simply to enhance the flavor of lower quality foods. Because MSG is processed, it can cause many adverse reactions like nausea, vomiting, hyperactivity, seizures, migraines, skin rashes, and asthma. If that doesn't keep you from consuming foods containing MSG, then I don't know what will. Luckily, making your own taco seasoning is super easy!
